Nine of Cups

Nine of Cups

LORD OF MATERIAL SUCCESS

JUPITER IN PISCES

After the stormy waters of the Seven and Eight of Cups, we come to Yesod in Briah.  Here, we are back in the stability of the Middle Pillar.  Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion, is more than happy to find itself in Pisces, a planet of compassion and humanity.

Furthermore, Yesod, the sphere of the Moon is more than happy to host the watery, dreamy pisces.  Thus, happiness finally returns to the suit of Cups.

The Nine of Cups, therefore, is a card of physical pleasure, joy and sensuality.

SYMBOLISM

Who knows sensual pleasure better than the god Dionysus (Bacchus)? In the Nine of Cups, he takes center stage at a celebration.  In one hand he holds a wine-filled cup.  In another, a bunch of grapes, representing harvest and, therefore, prosperity.

Dionysus’ celebration is shared by eight Muses, whose cups are, likewise, overflowing with wine.  Life is good.
